Moreover, I’ll also explain the step-by-step methods to soundproof your washing machine so that you can achieve the epitome of silence.

At times, washing machine sounds bizarre, right?

Like me, many of you wouldn’t even understand what’s happening inside the machine.

Whether it’s the noise of the loose metal parts or something else, it’s really difficult to tolerate those irritating noises if you’re the one who is in search of the epitome of silence.

Definitely, a quiet ambiance is a luxury, especially in the metros, and trust me, everyone can’t afford a soundproof room.

To make a soundproofing project a success, you need to be very careful in negating the source of both the airborne as well as impact noise.

Be it a compressor or a washing machine, I know most of us doesn’t like the screeching and groaning of these machines while they are doing their task.

The thing becomes worse if you’re living in a small apartment, the noisy home appliances can be a point of concern for NOT only you but your next-door neighbors as well.

So, what’s the solution?

To be honest, if you don’t have any budget constraints, then I would suggest, you should go buy a quiet washing machine.

However, if you’re on a shoestring budget or you’ve recently bought a washing machine, then buying a new one wouldn’t be a feasible option, right?

The other option would be to buy anti-vibration mats.

These mats come in a variety of shapes and sizes.

For example, they can be as simple as rubber feet that you can put beneath the machine or whole pads or even the covers.

In short, these anti-vibration mats are known for their budget-friendly nature and versatility.

So, without any further ado, let’s have a look at the products that made our list of “best anti-vibration mats”

Do I Need an Anti-Vibration Pad for My Washing Machine?

I’m assuming that most of you’re well aware of the fact that almost all washing machines produce at least some amount of vibration.

If you’ve not noticed yet, then keep a close look when the spin cycle is under process.

It goes without saying that different models of washing machines vibrate differently.

Needless to say, the older machines vibrate more than the new ones.

On top of it, the front-loading ones are louder than the top-loading ones because the former spins faster.

I’ll not deny the fact that there are in fact many ways to fix the vibration of a washing machine.

However, when it comes to the cheapest way to fix a vibration problem, nothing can suffice anti-vibration pads for washing machines.

To add to it, you can even separate the machine from all the surfaces where it can pass vibration.

Placing a wooden piece or making a platform using plywood below the machine base can definitely help you dampen some of the vibrations.

The amount of vibration that would dampen depends to a large extent on the thickness as well as the quality of the wood.

Moreover, you can even place moving blankets or noise-canceling curtains below the washing ONLY IF overheating isn’t an issue.

Most of the time, the machine passes vibration to the structure it is in contact with, and this happens because the machine is placed in a compact space.

So, what’s the solution?

Well, try to have a small gap between the washing machine and its surroundings.

If that isn’t possible and you’ve got a scarcity of space, then I would recommend you, pad the sides and corners using blankets or foam whichever works for you.

Lastly, cover the entire machine using a soundproof blanket, I’ve talked about the importance of soundproof blankets in making a room quiet in the article soundproofing room using JUST blankets.

So, never underestimate the caliber of a soundproofing blanket.

In short, the aforementioned steps may consume a good amount of your time along with a good chunk of money.

So, I would recommend you try anti-vibration pads (Check the current price on Amazon) for a washing machine as a hassle-free solution.

Impact of Anti-Vibration Pads on Washing Machine

Well, as a newbie or a first-time buyer, you may be a bit skeptical about the use of anti-vibration pads for the machine, and it is quite obvious.

I can assure you that the anti-vibration pads and mats are perfectly fine for a machine.

The good thing about these anti-vibration pads is that they are specially designed to control machine vibrations.

Even though you’ve got a wooden floor, these vibration mats will dampen the vibration that would otherwise pass through the floor.

Let’s have a look at some of the benefits of these mats.

  • Rubber pads for the machine will prevent damage to the floor from machine vibration
  • Moreover, these anti-vibration pads for the machine will act as washing machine floor protectors, and will definitely prevent the machine from walking freely across your room
  • Furthermore, you don’t need to push the machine back into the place

In short, anti-vibration products will definitely save your machine as well as the floor.

Vibration-damping pads are definitely a great thing to bring home, but at the same time, it is equally important to buy a vibration product that caters to your needs.

In the next section, I’ll walk you through some of the important features that you need to look for when buying vibration-damping pads.

Best Anti-Vibration Pads And Mats Buying Guide

As we all know, the market is saturated with anti-vibration products, and making an informed buying decision at times can be tricky.

However, we’ve concise all the information to save you time, and at the same time, update you with the latest information.

Product Types

When it comes to vibration damping pads & mats, you’ll find quite a few types, so as a newbie, you may get confused at times which is quite obvious, and nothing is wrong with it.

Small rubber pads are one of a kind which helps you to protect your wooden floor against excessive pressure.

Though these small foam rubber pads will absorb a good percentage of vibration still it isn’t a complete solution in itself.

Unfortunately, these rubber pads are too thin to lift the washing machine from the floor.

Here come the small circular rubber pads that are specifically designed to absorb your washing machine vibrations as well as prevent them from skidding while they are spinning your clothes.

But, what if, your machine is completely flat at the bottom?

Well, the good news is, you’ll still be able to use them, All you need to do is to slip them under your washer and forget, the rest will be taken care of by these circular rubber pads.

Our discussion would be incomplete if we didn’t talk about the rubber flooring materials.

I personally vouch for the rubber flooring materials because they act as a buffer between the machine and the floor.

In the case of rubber vibration damping pads, you may have the problem of cleaning because dust can easily accumulate in the space created by lifting the machine on the pads.

The same doesn’t hold true in the case of the rubber flooring materials because they cover the entire surface beneath the washing machine base negating the chances of dust accumulation.

Materials and Thickness

If you do some research, you’ll get to know that most vibration-damping pads consist of a good percentage of rubber.

Rubber is known for shock absorption because of its mass and density.

But, at the same time, it also has some flaws as well.

Once you’ve applied the rubber anti-vibration pads beneath your washing machine, you need to do with the rubbery smell for at least the first few days.

For me, the smell is compensated by the rubber pad’s ability to keep the machine in place.

Even some rubber pads come with “anti-walk” claims, something to brag about, isn’t it?

So, now we know that the rubber pads are perhaps the best to deal with washing machine vibration, right?

The next thing that we need to decide is the thickness of these rubber pads.

As a first-time buyer, you may be inquisitive about whether you should go for thin or thick vibration-damping pads, right?

I always recommend the thicker anti-vibration pads though it may cost you some extra bucks.

When it comes to peace of mind, I never compromise on it even though I’ve to pay some extra bucks.

Effectiveness

It goes without saying that covering as much portion of the floors as possible would be a great option when it comes to effectiveness.

For example, covering the base of the washing machine with an anti-vibration pad will definitely be an effective solution.

All you need to do is install thick padding (rubber pads) beneath the washing machine base as well as corners.

For the optimum result, refrain the washing from touching the walls, furniture, or any other surface that may aggravate the vibration.

Price

For most of us, the price has always been a deciding factor when it comes to buying any product.

Moreover, price plays a crucial role if we’re on a shoestring budget, right?

Nonetheless, you don’t need to worry about the price even though you’re on a shoestring budget because, in the product review section, I’ll walk you through some of the cheapest products that are highly effective as well.

My pick ranges from $10 to $150, so I’m sure that you’ll find a vibration-damping mat of your choice.

Keeping in mind the importance of price, we’ve tried to come up with really some budget-friendly, yet effective products that can really heave a sigh of relief in terms of quietness.

Xcel Foam Rubber Padding Acoustic Damper Anti-Vibration Closed Cell Pads

Well, the first product that made to our list is from XCEL.

In case, you haven’t heard about XCEL, then let me tell you, it’s a company based out of the United States that specializes in industrial and military-grade materials.

Over a period of time, XCEL has developed trust among soundproof enthusiasts by continuously innovating the product line.

best anti vibration pads

The Xcel foam rubber padding is definitely one of its kind when it comes to reducing the vibration of your washer.

As the name suggests, the closed-cell construction makes this pad highly durable.

On top of it, once placed beneath the machine, it will help you to protect your hardwood floor from problems such as scrapes and scuffs.

Moreover, these vibration-damping pads are capable enough to tackle water and oil because of their water-resistant nature.

Whether you want some rubber pads for your furniture, air compressor, or home appliances, these pads are the ones that you need to look for.

They can be easily cut as per your requirement into different shapes and sizes.

All you need is a scissor or a razor to trim the pads to fit perfectly.

Unlike other rubber pads that may succumb under heavy pressure, the Xcel Foam Rubber Padding is a treat to watch for.

Since these rubber pads are made of industrial-grade rubber, you don’t need to worry at all if you own a heavyweight washer.

The thing that really grabbed my eyeball is the multi-functionality of these rubber pads.

You can place it wherever you want to deal with vibration.

Lastly, XCEL manufactures these anti-vibration pads in the US, and you can easily afford them even though you’re on a shoestring budget.

Washer Anti-Vibration and Anti-Walk Pads VIBRAFIX

Well, to begin with, if your washing machine is completely flat at the bottom and lacks a foot this anti-vibration washer would be able to lift the machine.

As a result, you can expect the vibration to be significantly reduced.

Just to bring to your notice, some of my clients were more than happy to try these anti-walk pads because their machines became completely silent once the pads were correctly installed.

best anti vibration pads for air conditioners

Moreover, this idiosyncratic product introduces you to the world of anti-walk washing machine footpads.

These are nothing but sets of four rubber washer foot covers.

These pads have a unique dimension that not only lifts the machine from the floor but also stabilizes it.

You’ll find a relief pattern on the bottom side of these pads.

These patterns are very helpful in preventing the machine from vibrating away from its place.

On top of it, the hard and durable rubber base provides stability to the machine.

As a result, you’ll find a reduction in the vibration.

However, for the optimum result, the machine feet should be of equal dimensions.

The USP of this product is the high coefficient of friction that prevents skidding as well as walking.

So, if your machine has adjustable feet then adjust them to an equal height even before you slip these pads beneath them.

Needless to say, a 1.75-inch wide, 0.25-inch deep indentation is more than enough to hold most washing machine’s feet.

  • 3-inch circular base, 1.25 inches tall
  • Indentation for washer feet on top
  • Grips on the bottom to prevent “walking”
  • High durometer
  • Affordable

INTUITIVE DESIGNS Anti-Vibration Anti-Walk Pads – Washer and Dryer Stabilizer Reduces Noise and Anti-Slip

There is a lot of similarities between INTUITIVE DESIGNS and Washer anti-vibration by ENJ.

For example, they are also 1.25 inches tall with a 3-inch circular base.

Again, like the previous product, INTUITIVE DESIGN has a pattern on the bottom to prevent the machine from skidding.

Even the top of the pad has a 1.75-inch indentation for the feet of the machine.

So, what do these similarities depict?

As per my observation and experience, these similarities tell you that these dimensions and features are in huge demand as well as working for the end customers.

anti vibration pads for machines

However, this product does differ from its close competitors on certain parameters such as the type of rubber and design of the bottom grip.

As per the manufacturer’s claim, this vibration-damping pad is made of a unique rubber compound.

The good thing about this vibration-damping pad is that even though it was made keeping the compressors, washing machine, and other household appliances in mind, you can use them for many other things as well.

To name a few- chairs, tables, beds, etc.

Why should I buy?
  • 3-inch circular base, 1.25 inches tall
  • Indentation for washer feet on top
  • Hard rubber
  • Grips on the bottom to prevent “walking”
  • Affordable

Sorbothane Anti-Vibration Anti-Walk Washer and Dryer Machine Floor Pads

It goes without saying that Sorbothane is one of the best pads available on the market when it comes to limiting home appliance movement.

By restricting the washing machine’s movement, you can directly control the vibration to some extent.

Another thing to look for is the versatile nature of these anti-vibration pads.

anti vibration pads for dryers

It quite comfortably syncs with almost all types of washing machine models and designs.

Whether you’re a first-time buyer or a newbie, this vibration-damping pad will not take much of your time.

The USP of this vibration-damping pad is that it absorbs up to 94.7 percent of the vibration.

When it comes to dampening vibrations, all the credit goes to the Sorbothane construction of these pads.

I highly recommend Sorbothane Anti-Vibration pads for concrete and hardwood floors.

On top of it, the product is made in the United States.

To prevent the washing machine from walking it uses cutting-edge polymer technology.

The pads are highly versatile and work well against different types of floors such as tile, concrete, wood, vinyl, linoleum, stone, and other solid-surface floors.

If you’re having trouble cleaning the space beneath your washing machine, then I’ve got a piece of good news for you.

These pads raise your machine by 5/8”, and thus make the cleaning process quite easy.

To make these anti-vibration pads superlative, the company uses a dual-material vibration isolation system.

Why should I buy?
  • Best anti-vibration solution for all appliances
  • Raises machine by 5/8″
  • Durable
  • Hard shiny rubber
  • Dampen the vibration up to 94.7 percent
  • Uses Sorbothane polymers that are trusted by NASA, NASCAR
  • Ease of use
  • Fits most washing machine model

Casa Pura Anti-Vibration Pad

So, here comes the rubber flooring product.

It goes without saying that Casa Pura Anti-Vibration pads are quite popular because of the quality, durability, and effectiveness that they come with.

It comes in two sizes: 24×24 and 24×40.

For each of the aforementioned sizes, these pads come in variable thicknesses such as 0.2, 0.4, and 0.8 inches.

What I’ve observed over a period of time is that most of the washers and dryers have 24-inch square bases, so the smaller sizes are a good fit.

anti vibration pads for washers

The unique thing about these vibration dampening pads is that they are made of compressed recycled rubber granules which are without any doubt great at absorbing shocks and vibrations.

Well, the performance of these anti-vibration pads may vary depending on the thickness you choose.

The thicker the pads the better they will combat vibration.

They are perfectly customized to cover the entire bottom of your machine, so chances are very low that the vibration will escape to the floor.

On top of it, these rubber pads will prevent the machine from sliding down the floor.

Well, what I like about these rubber anti-vibration pads is that they aren’t machine-specific, so you can use them for other household appliances as well.

I’ve personally used them, and I can confidently say that they are effective and last longer.

I prefer a 24×24 size and thickness of 0.8 as it suits my washing machine.

I would suggest, you shouldn’t compromise on the thickness even though you’ve to pay some extra bucks.

But, at the same time, it doesn’t mean that 0.2 thickness isn’t worth the money.

In short, it will work either way otherwise, the company would have stopped manufacturing the pads of less thickness, right?

Why should I buy?
  • Multi-purpose
  • 0.2, 0.4, or 0.8 inches thick
  • 24×24 or 24×40
  • Recycled rubber
  • Affordable
  • Durable
  • Fuel and oil-resistant
  • Made in Germany
  • Ideal for private and commercial uses
  • Fire resistance B2 DIN 4102

Rubber-Cal Anti-Vibration Washing Machine Mat

As the name suggests, Rubber-Cal Anti-Vibration mats are specifically designed to tackle the vibration problem related to washing machines.

Time and again, Rubber-Cal has proved its mettle when it comes to tackling the vibration and shock.

anti vibration pads for washing machine

If you can recall, I’ve explained in detail in my article on soundproofing floors about the benefits of using Rubber-Cal Anti-Vibration Washing Machine Mat.

They are multi-purpose and you can go ahead and use them for other household appliances as well.

Moreover, the dimension (4×6 foot, 0.42-inch thick rubber pad) in which it comes gives you the feasibility to use it wherever you want.

Similar to the Casa Pura, it also uses recycled rubber as its material.

At the same time, if you want to just cover the space under your washer, then this mat would be too big, isn’t it?

So, what’s the solution?

Well, all you need to do is, use a utility knife or a box cutter to cut the mat as per your requirement.

If you’re a first-time user, then let me tell you, these mats are a bit difficult to cut because of their thickness and density, and you know what, these two parameters make it a great vibration absorber.

To be honest, if you’re on a shoestring budget, then definitely this is not the product that I would recommend to you as they are quite pricey.

Why should I buy?
  • 0.42 inches thick
  • 4×6 feet
  • Recycled rubber
  • Multi-purpose
  • Capable of absorbing shock from even workout equipment
  • Offers superior underfoot comfort
  • Suitable for both residential and commercial purposes

Tips to Soundproof a Washer

Till now, the center of our discussion was the anti-vibration pads for washing machines.

Moving further, we’ll be discussing some of the innovative yet affordable ways that will help you in the reduction of washing machine noise.

I’ve personally applied a couple of these methods to make my washing machine quieter.

How to Make a Washing Machine Quieter?

Let’s have a look at some of these idiosyncratic tips that can bring quietness to your life.

Don’t Miss Out on the Door

Well, you may argue that closing a washing machine door is nothing but common sense, right?

I give full marks to your argument, but at the same time, I hope you’ll agree with me if I say common sense is something that is not so COMMON.

Correct me, if I’m wrong.

Furthermore, you can argue that there are smart washing machines that can’t even start without closing the door.

Well, that is where you got me WRONG, my dear friends.

I’m assuming that you’ve operated a washing machine in the past.

So, you would have definitely observed that after a few cycles, the door can become WOBBLY so much that during a spin cycle, the vibration could cross all boundaries making it unbearable for our ears to tackle the noise.

So, what’s the solution?

Well, all you need to do is to check for any gaps between the door and the machine,

If you find the gap, then attach the door draught stopper to the outer rim of the washing machine door.

If you haven’t heard about the door draught stopper before, then let me tell you, it is a long strip of foam with adhesive on its back that you can cut as per your requirement.

You don’t have to roam here and there for the draught, it is easily available in the hardware shop.

On the other hand, if you’re a DIY kind of person, then make a piece of sponge handy, cut it as per your requirement, and then stick it to the washing machine door using double-sided tape.

Once you’re done with it, make sure that the door closes properly.

Good to Try Kitchen Sponges

If you lack time and are willing to spend a few dollars to make your washing machine quieter, then the simplest way would be to buy standard-size kitchen sponges.

If you’re an avid reader of this blog then you would be well aware of the fact that sponges are good at absorbing sound as well as muffling vibrations.

And, for the same reasons they are not only used in the studios but also in industrial ear muffs.

Since your washing machine has four corners, you need to buy 4 pieces of kitchen sponges.

Place these kitchen sponges under the corner of your machine.

If you’re doing this for the first time, then I would suggest, you should ask someone to help you with lifting the machine, one corner at a time.

This method is very effective if your machine is old.

The problem with the aging motor or shaky drums is that they act as a source of the echo.

These kitchen sponges not only dampen the echoes and reverbs but also prevent the machine from wandering around.

This method will not be highly effective if the intensity of noise is very high.

Garage Mat can do Wonders for you

Yup, you heard it RIGHT.

A garage mat can do wonders for you.

Of course, it isn’t everyone’s cup of tea and requires a bit of hard work, but at the same time, it will pay you in the long run.

To expedite this method successfully, first and foremost, you’ll need a garage sheet made of foam which you can find at a nearby hardware store or buy online like the one I got recently. (Check the current price on Amazon)

Since my washing machine is a decent size, I bought 4 pieces of the garage sheet.

If your machine is smaller, then even two sheets can do the job for you.

Once you’ve got the sheets with you, ask for some helping hands to lift the machine.

You can even use a certain type of device to lift the machine as well.

Now, all you need to do is simply place the garage sheet under your machine.

Run your machine and check the effectiveness of these sheets.

I’m damn sure that you’ll be more than happy after the placement of these garage sheets.

However, if that is NOT the case, increase the thickness of the sheets by placing one over the other, and you’ll definitely get the desired result.

Install Anti-Vibration Pads and Mats

As we’ve discussed at the beginning of this post anti-vibration pads & mats can be a great relief for you when it comes to combating the washing machine vibration.

These vibration-damping pads come in different shapes, sizes, and styles.

Most of these pads are capable of dealing with the vibrations of other household appliances as well.

Reposition the Washing Machine

It is a common observation that whenever the machine is loaded heavily it will experience a small movement because the spin cycle would be trying very hard to drain the load.

The same movement you could experience if the machine isn’t properly balanced.

Needless to say, the result could be devastating in the context of noise.

If you’re assuming that the problem is only related to noise, then you’re ABSOLUTELY wrong my dear friend.

Things could further worsen because of mechanical stress.

Unfortunately, mechanical stress could act as the biggest cause of leaks and other malfunctions.

So, what’s the solution?

The good news is, you don’t have to spend any money at all.

All you need to do is to unplug the machine and shake it well from all four sides, if needed don’t hesitate to ask for a helping hand.

Once done move it from side to side until you stop experiencing vibration.

Don’t Have a Laundry Room?

So, you don’t have a laundry room, right?

Trust me, you don’t need to worry at all.

I was also in a similar situation a few years back when I was just starting out.

You may be inquisitive about the hacks that I’m gonna discuss, right?

If I could recall I was living in an apartment a few years back, and my washing machine used to be in the bathroom corner.

The biggest problem was that there was little space between the bathroom and the living space.

So, whenever I used to do laundry things used to get out of my control.

Unfortunately, my machine was a bit old, so it used to vibrate like anything.

One day I decided to get rid of that irritating noise.

So, I bought foam sheets as per the dimensions of my washing machine along with some spray-on adhesives.

I had some great experience with the foams when it comes to soundproofing rooms, windows, doors, and even walls.

With the help of adhesive, I placed the foam around the machine.

For the optimum result, I also fix the foam in the vicinity of the washing machine.

And, the rest is history.

The noise decreased significantly, and trust me, this is one of those DIY projects that I always brag about.

Needless to say, if you’re using this method, then don’t forget to place soundproof mats or moving blankets on the floor.

If your machine gets heated easily then refrain from using blankets.

Cover the Machine with Blankets

Covering the machine with a regular or a soundproof blanket can do the trick for you.

No need to buy a new soundproof blanket for this step.

Take an old blanket and simply toss it over your washing machine.

In case, you’re one of those guys who is more concerned about the aesthetic appearance, then I would recommend you should trim the blanket at the corner as well as wherever it is needed.

For my machine, I bought two soundproof blankets which helped me to wrap all sides of the machine including the bottom.

While ordering blankets, keep in mind that it should be as wide as the washer, and long enough to reach the floor of the machine once you center the blankets on the top of the machine.

Soundproof Laundry Room

If your apartment has a laundry room, then things could be less complicated.

Soundproofing your laundry room could help you deal better with the noise and vibration of the washing machine.

While soundproofing your laundry room pay special attention to the floor because the only point of contact through which the machine can pass vibration is the floor.

Once you’re done with the floor, look for the air vents if any, and block it if possible or soundproof the vents.

Another vulnerable portion of the laundry room is the doors and windows, so my advice would be to soundproof them in the best possible way for the optimum result.

In the case of the door, seal the gaps, holes, and cracks in the vicinity of the door.

Also, seal the cracks between the door and the frame.

For space between the bottom of the door and the floor use a door sweep.

For windows, use soundproof curtains to prevent the noise from going out of the room.

The wall is the last thing that you need to soundproof.

If the wall has a good thickness, then all you need to do is install some bass traps and foams on the walls.

To deal with the echoes, give special attention to the corners of the walls.

If Needed, Call the Repairman

Well, after spending so much time and money on the project, if you’re not able to achieve the desired result, then I would suggest you should take the help of the repairman.

Because the problem may be bigger than we’re assuming.

Whatever I’ve discussed in this post is nothing but the DIY hacks, and can only help you in reducing the washing machine vibration and noise.

Moreover, if after following the aforementioned steps thing isn’t working as per your plan, then the probability is very high that the cause of vibration is some serious issue.

Get estimates from at least a couple of repairmen before going for the repair.

And, if the repairman doesn’t guarantee you to get rid of the problem, then it’s time to look for some of the quietest washing machines for the money.

Hope it helps!
